Long before starting the journey to become a doula, I begin my early career in childcare. During this time, I was always drawn to being a care provider in the infant room. Though my time there was short I took what I like to call a detour before stepping into my passion, which included 13 years as an insurance adjust along with 6 years. in the Army Reserves. And though I was always passionate in working with babies and mothers, I finally decided to follow where it felt God was leading - supporting women at the most vulnerable times of their lives- during the birth and postpartum period.
This desire and passion started in my own journey of growing my family. I have been blessed with 5 children and though they are ranging in the ages of 6-17 now, when I was expecting my first I remember this journey beginning with a frustrating experience at my very first prenatal appointment. I quickly began to research if there were better, more supportive ways to receive prenatal care and birth. In this time, I also felt the miracle of God in that he designed women to carry children and give birth, and in this very vulnerable time they should be met as they are and supported in their birth desires. It can be an overwhelming time for some women, and every woman deserves the care and support of a doula to walk beside them through it all.
When I am not with my clients, I am often doing all the things with my kids including soccer, roller derby, dance and basketball! I love to read, trail run (or just run in general), serve in my church and hang out with my husband, kids and silly black lab Coco. I also have the opportunity to volunteer my time with Embrace Grace that includes co-leading a group at my church focused on unplanned pregnancies. Lastly, I plan to grow my knowledge and support in breastfeeding education so that I can also be of support in helping women having similar struggles I faced to achieve their breastfeeding goals. It truly is such an honor and joy to be welcomed into any space to support women and families, and I hope that I get to be a part of your journey.

Birth & Postpartum Doula - Madriella
What was your biggest take away from doula training?
My biggest take away from training is to always approach every situation from the vantage point of my clients experience - not the providers, the hospitals, or my own. My training instilled in me that one of the biggest roles of the doula is to uplift the voice of the woman laboring and focus on making sure her voice, vision and emotions are at the center of every situation and decision.
What is a birth or postpartum resource you highly recommend?
A few episodes you should definitely listen to:

What is the number one thing you use when supporting a family?
First and foremost a calming presence! All the other things follow what are needed for each moment.
Why should a client hire you?
I want to love and support you through this journey and make it as smooth for you as possible! My goal is to come beside you with whatever type of support you need, and ultimately for you to arrive at that moment when you have come through it all and feel the surrender, joy, relief, power, and all the feelings you can feel!
