I like to think my journey as a doula began when I was a young girl, memorizing the birth weights and times of my four siblings and myself. Growing up, I heard the women around me talk about birth and I was always fascinated.

As I began to interact with the healthcare community as a young woman, I saw the ways in which women deserve better care. Then, I saw my sister-in-law have a high-risk pregnancy and birth. She told me about postpartum and all the things that often aren’t mentioned — the physical recovery, the hormones, the identity shift, and more. Determined that women and birthing people deserve more, deserve better, I started researching how I could become a support during the most vulnerable time. And with each page I read, each option I researched, everything pointed to becoming a doula.

In 2023, I became a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula with BEST Doula. As I finished my training and stepped into supporting families, I felt the sigh of relief in knowing the expentional care I would be bringing through my role as a doula. It is my great honor to walk alongside parents and families through birth and postpartum — in whatever way that looks like for each client. My hope is to offer tailored care that suits your preferences and supports your needs as my client.

I like to believe that if you were to boil down my doula philosophy in the most simpliest terms, it is this —  during a tender time, you deserve support that makes you feel mighty. And my role, is to support you so that you feel powerful.

In the birth space, I encourage informed consent, which is a collaborative process that is easily demonstrated by the acronym BRAIN (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Instinct, and Nothing/ Now (what if I do nothing or wait?). This acronym encourages you to consider all of your options and helps ensure you have the education, resources, and tools to make your best informed decision. As your doula, I can help provide resources that highlight evidence-based practices.

Having spent a lot of time receiving care, I’m passionate about ensuring that you know all of your options and helping you to feel like you have physical and emotional support during this process. I am also a yoga teacher and bring an understanding of breath, anatomy, and the mind-body connection to my doula work.

In society, we focus a lot of conversations around birth, but as I mentioned previously, the postpartum period can be overlooked. The fourth trimester is a crucial and tender transition — whether you are stepping into matrescence for the first time or the fifth. Every new chapter has highs and lows. Doulas are here to help you navigate your journey whether that’s care we can provide or acting as a bridge to connect you to another form of care.

As a birth and postpartum doula, I can help you consider what this season may entail and what avenues of support you may want to consider for things like breastfeeding, nutrition, mental health, physical recovery, etc. No matter what postpartum looks like for you — you deserve care that makes you feel nurtured and cared for.

FUN FACT: In my free time, you can find me reading on my porch swing, hanging out with loved ones, traveling, teaching myself how to sew, writing, practicing yoga, watching rom-coms, thrifting, and more.
