Birth Doula

Congratulations! We are so excited that you are here!
If you are expecting your little one before September 1st, click here.

This season in life can come with a lot of questions as you journey through pregnancy and prepare for the birth of your little one. While a doula's main purpose is to provide physical and emotional support during the birth process, we are also here to help you sift through the overwhelming information available, be a resource with evidence-based knowledge, and simply lend a listening ear when you need it most. We provide each of these services with the focus on seamless care through our team model.

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained and certified professional who offers guidance and provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to families before, during, and shortly after childbirth. A doula has many roles from encouraging and helping you fulfill specific desires you might have for your birth, maintaining your birth plan, and keeping you informed and supported if unexpected changes to your birth plan should arise. Through our team model we are able to provide you with individualized support from the moment you sign the contract during pregnancy with resources, childbirth education, and a prenatal; during labor and delivery from start to finish with comfort measures and pain relief techniques that include breathing, relaxation, massage, and laboring positions regardless of your birth preferences; during postpartum to help build your confidence, reassure, and continue to provide you with resources and information. We also work with your partner, reassuring them and guiding them in the ways they can comfort you. Our support is continuous through the whole process and is unique to you and your growing family.

What are the benefits?

Research has demonstrated one of the greatest benefits of hiring a doula includes having better birth outcomes and experiences. We know expectant mothers are two times less likely to experience a birth complication involving themselves or their baby with the support of a doula. In addition, the information and encouragement communicated to a mother from a doula throughout pregnancy have been found to increase the mother’s self-efficacy and ability to impact her own pregnancy and birth outcomes. When continuous labor support was provided by a doula, women experienced:

  • 31% decrease in the use of Pitocin.

  • 28% decrease in the risk of C-section.

  • 12% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth.

  • 9% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief.

  • 14% decrease in the risk of newborns being admitted to a special care nursery.

  • 34% decrease in dissatisfaction with the birth experience.

What is the team model?

As a team, Little Lilacs Birth Services has a shared philosophy for supporting women and families in their pregnancy and birth journey, as well as shared common beliefs, goals, and approaches to the support of our clients. Our philosophy is simple in that we support your decisions and choices for your family. As your doula team, our role is to help guide you in processing the information to make the best-informed decisions. The team model approach allows us to collectively support our clients and provide seamless care versus having a primary doula with the potential for a backup doula. The greatest benefits of the team model of doula support for our clients include:

  • 24/7 on-call support for women and families from the moment they sign the contract versus starting at 38 weeks.

  • A team of doulas that support you throughout pregnancy and know your birth preferences, and remove the use of a backup doula.

  • A collective total of 27 years of experience allows us to bring a unique approach to care.

  • Clients receive the most paramount support with doulas that are well-rested and the best versions of themselves through the shared call team model.

We are a team of doulas that are passionate about supporting women and families and though the team model may be different, we believe that this model allows us to sustainably continue to do this very special work. With the average doula’s work expectancy of only two years, we look forward to ensuring that we are able to continue to be a team of dependable doulas supporting women and families throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
