Lactation Support

Congratulations on your little lilac!

Whether this is your first, second or fifth baby, breastfeeding is a learning journey for mother and baby. Sometimes we expect breastfeeding to be simple, but find obstacles that were not anticipated. No mother should feel unable to nurse her little lilac, and that is why we offer lactation support—to meet mothers where they are in their breastfeeding journey and help them to create a positive and enjoyable experience!

What is Lactation Support?
With our Lactation Support we offer home or office visits for mother and baby. During a visit we want to learn about your journey, help identify obstacles, and provide you with techniques and tips to help improve your breastfeeding journey. Our focus during a visit is to teach and equip you with positions, latch techniques, and infant feeding and care information. A typical visit will take 1.5-2 hours to allow for plenty of time for discussing and assessing a nursing session.

When to Schedule Lactation Support?
Prenatal Support: We highly encourage expecting mothers and partners to attend not only childbirth education classes, but breastfeeding and baby care classes to help get breastfeeding off to a good start. Learn more about the classes we offer here. Also, consider joining local breastfeeding support groups and ask us about additional resources!

—Postpartum Support: Following the birth, whether days or weeks, you may desire to schedule lactation support to help you on your breastfeeding journey. During your breastfeeding journey, the best time to seek additional support is when you find there may be something interfering with you and your babies breastfeeding experience. Specifically, this may be cracked or blistered nipples, painful latch, difficulty latching with a fussy baby, and many other things that with additional lactation support can improve your breastfeeding experience.

No matter the length of time a mother plans to breastfeed, the journey of breastfeeding matters, and we want to support you in your breastfeeding journey.
